Dr. Lewis Knight came to Southern Wesleyan University in 2013, as the coordinator of the Media Communication program. When he came to SWU, the classes were being offered in a lower level of Newton Hobson Chapel, which also houses the Fine Arts Center and students. At the start of Fall of 2019, the program moved into a visible studio at the Jennings Campus Life Center. Southern Wesleyan's new Digital Media Center can no longer be missed. The studio is visible through a high traffic area, through the windows at Blue Hill Coffee & Tea Co. The new studio is not just a normal classroom, it has a green screen wall, a video wall, production lights, and a hand-built anchor desk.
With Knight's background, he is able to give students hands on experience with what it would be like in a career setting. Graduates from Southern Wesleyan's Media Communications program have gone to work for networks, and network affiliates, that includes TNT and Chattanooga. Other graduates have gone into internal communication roles at Charleston International Airport and the University of South Carolina. One Media Communication graduate is producing video content for national clients, like Best Western.
